Surviving this Economy

After our big move into our first house, my previous organization and family management has been purely in SHAMS. Worst part of all, our budget has taken the largest nose dive I have EVER seen in our relationship. We've scraping nickels and dimes out of couch cushions just to have gas for the hubs to get back and forth to work. I'm sure this is no different than what many of you have experienced in this downward spiral of an economy. I have to say that I'm BLOWN away by finances!

When the hubs and I first met we had over $8K in the bank account, no credit card debt, and two vehicles (one which had approx. $18K yet to pay off). Now, we're paycheck to paycheck, with one major credit card that's nearly maxed out, two vehicles WITH car payments still equallying approx. $18K until pay off, and NOW the cost of a new house. After receiving our second mortgage payment, we were both hit with a harsh reality... only $200 of our payment went towards the house, where the rest was taken by the interest. *GASPS* The only good thing about it all is that instead of wasting $1000 per month to rent, we're finally putting it towards something that will eventually be paid off, towards something that will eventually be OURS.

While trying to get back on track my goals for this week are to: (btw: the beginning and end of my 'weeks' are the typical Monday through Friday, but rather revolve around the hubs schedule)

- Create a meal plan for the next four weeks, then make a grocery list revolving around ONLY the items I need; hoping to eliminate compulsive grocery shopping.

- Start clipping MORE coupons, organizing my coupon binder, and searching websites for the best deals. Don't forget PRICE MATCHING!

- Search Pinterest for HomeMade recipes... Going back to basics. Homemade laundry detergent, homemade dish detergent, homemade cleaners, etc.

What are some other money saving techniques you use in your home to save money?
