Making a House a Home

To a man a house is just a house, but if he adds a woman, the house becomes a home.

We found the perfect little rental home to accomodate our growing family. When searching for homes, Roger and I argued numerous times about how we could make a place work... or how it simply wouldn't work. However, arguments ceased when we pulled into the driveway. The house was in a culdasac and had a long driveway leading back to the house that simply took our breath away.

Walking through the house, neither one of us had disagrements about the place and we both knew this house would become our home. We signed papers and moved in the last week of May. This post is to show off how exactly our new house has become home.

One of the first things we tackled after unpacking majority of the boxes was re-painting the dining room and kitchen. As you can see in the picture below the walls used to be a bright yellow and blue, with a spring time flower pot wallpaper boarder. We could have potentially "lived with it" if we had the appropriate country decor to go with it. The dining room actually reminded me of the little house I grew up in, with drapes that had geese on them. :)

Nevertheless, Roger and I headed out to find some paint. I refused to simply do a white or eggshell, but demanded we invest a bit more personality. So Roger chose the colors, settling with a hazelnut cream and a mocha brown. I can't say I was impressed with his choice of color, but once I found a walpaper boarder that would tie it all in, I was sold. Honestly, I was quiet impressed with our teamwork and the finished product we were able to create as a couple.

The next room I'm gonna take you to is the living room. With the aqward narrow room and large window I had no clue how we were gonna arrange furniture.. So I let Roger tackle that project and I focused on placing decor. Aside from needing some window treatments, I'd have to say it looks pretty darn good!

Of course, I'm only showing off two of the rooms in the house because they are the only two that are close enough to being completed.. but more will follow as time allows.
